In 1999, Naomi was undertaking Year 12, and apparently found most of her classes very boring. She began writing a series of absurd notes, mainly for fun, but she began reading them to her friends. Needless to say, hey all thought she was very mad. In 2002, Naomi needed to present a self-written spoken-word piece (like poetry, but performed out loud as part of a competition) for her voice class at uni. She decided to revive three of these silly notes as part of a ‘Silly Poem’. Her classmates all thought she was nuts (but then, they knew that already), and quite enjoyed the reading.
One of the phrases in the silly notes/poem, was ‘Sticky apple legs’, and one day Naomi decided that this would be the perfect name for a theatre company. When establishing the company with Jeany and Susan, she suggested the name. Jeany liked it immediately, and she and Naomi soon convinced Susan to go along with it. Here is an excerpt of the poem:
“Dear Anywho, I am finished and I am bored, so I am writing about I am. I am is a nice person really but their sticky apple legs are disturbingly moldy…”
